Privacy Policy

Libby ("we", "our", or "us") is a food ingredient scanner built by Lucky Happy Fish LLC. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it is used.
1. No Account Required
Libby does not require you to create an account. You can scan food and view ingredient analysis entirely anonymously. We identify your device using a randomly generated device ID stored locally on your phone — this is not linked to your name, email, or any personal identifier.
2. Data We Collect
When you use Libby, we may collect:
- Device ID — a random UUID generated on first launch, used to apply your personalization settings and track your daily scan count. Never linked to your identity.
- Scan logs — we log that a scan occurred (timestamp and scan type) for rate limiting purposes. We do not log which products you scanned.
- Health profile (optional) — if you set up personalization (allergens, symptoms, diet), this is stored on our servers tied only to your device ID. You can delete it at any time.
- Images — photos you take for label scanning are sent to our server for processing and immediately discarded. We do not store your images.
3. Data We Do NOT Collect
- Your name, email address, or any contact information
- Your location
- Your contacts, calendar, or microphone
- Any data from other apps
- Browsing history
4. How We Use Your Data
- To return personalized ingredient alerts based on your health profile
- To enforce the free tier daily scan limit (3 scans/day)
- To improve ingredient scoring and coverage
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
5. Third-Party Services
Libby uses the following third-party services:
- Supabase — our database host. Data is stored in the US (Oregon). Supabase is SOC 2 Type II certified.
- Semantic Scholar / OpenAlex — used to fetch scientific studies for ingredient scoring. We send only ingredient names, never personal data.
- Apple StoreKit — used for in-app purchases. Apple handles all payment processing. We never see your payment details.
6. In-App Purchases
Subscriptions and one-time purchases are processed entirely by Apple. We receive a confirmation from Apple when a purchase is completed, which we use to upgrade your account tier. We never receive or store your credit card or payment information.
7. Data Retention
Scan logs are retained for 90 days for rate limiting purposes, then automatically deleted. Your health profile is retained until you delete it in Settings → Profile → Delete Profile, or you can contact us at [email protected] to request deletion.
8. Children's Privacy
Libby is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be noted in the app. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
